Technical Account Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Based in California, the Technical Account Manager (TAM) will work closely with product development, operations, manufacturing, business development, and marketing teams to provide comprehensive and coordinated sales and support services to our customers and partners. They will be a lead contributor to ensuring customers have a successful experience with our products. This individual will exhibit company core values while working to increase account value. This role is centered on consulting with customers, understanding their agronomic practices, product needs, seed production and production planning process, and leveraging that relationship and analysis to provide continual business revenue. The TAM will be involved in all aspects of customer support, on-boarding, product trials, knowledge transfer, manufacturing, planning, and product portfolio management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the responsibility for customer on-boarding and success. Be prepared to field any questions related to product offering and troubleshooting.
  • Provide advice, recommendations and best agronomic practices to growers and be a subject matter expert for best production practices for cannabis. 
  • Working with customers and internal production planning team, develop rolling forecasts that manage inventory and production to ensure a managed product portfolio around production planning, inventory management, and product lifecycle.  
  • Participate in managing business relationships, build customer relationships, roadmap customer success, goals, and strategies for increasing value.
  • Work closely with the Breeding, Product Management and Technology Development to provide input that improves product development and release. 
  • Understand and support customers’ seed production practices and integrate Phylos agronomic practices to optimize success. 
  • Execute as an individual contributor and contribute to the business development/sales team.
  • Oversee and be responsible for customer feedback, complaints, and corrective actions to ensure client relationship flows smoothly and the client is satisfied with product quality to drive recurring revenue. 
  • Use CRM systems to measure key metrics in real-time while providing monthly, quarterly, and annual trends, along with allowing for effective forecasting and KPI tracking. 
  • Provide customer service and relationship value that position Phylos as a Lead Brand relative to competitor product offerings.
  • Work with the Sales team to reliably anticipate and understand market trends, customer issues and needs, and the competitive landscape. 
  • Represent Phylos at industry, trade and academic settings. 
  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively to ensure alignment and support of business goals. 
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude. 
  • Actively support the company’s mission, strategies, goals, values, and policies.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Formal Education: BS degree in Horticulture, Agronomy or Agriculture 
  • 5+ years of horticulture and/or agronomic experience in a commercial scale  
  • Experience successfully cultivating hemp plant (Cannabis sativa) on a commercial scale is a plus  
  • Demonstrated, verifiable track record of consistently maintaining customer relations and driving value as a horticulture/agronomy expert. 
  • Experience in serving the development needs of the customer and addressing customer concerns.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage simultaneous projects with competing resources and timelines, while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate professionally and effectively with team members at all levels, as well as customers and partners.
  • Strong drive to meet or exceed customer expectations. 
  • Ability to work calmly and productively under pressure.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
  • Persistence and attention to detail in all aspects of the job. 
  • Outstanding communication and relationship building skills.
  • A positive attitude and a general optimistic outlook, with a demonstrated ability to proactively find solutions when facing obstacles.
  • Ability to work fluidly with G-Suite, Slack, project management platforms and other relevant general business software.
  • Currently have a driver license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle is required.
  • Currently have or able to obtain an OLCC Worker Permit and any other permit or license legally mandated for working with cannabis required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Sit or sit/stand at a desk or other workstation for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to walk on uneven, unpaved ground, ability to bend, crouch, observe plant characteristics, and lift up to 30 pounds.  
  • Frequent communication with others, most often in person or via email, messaging, telephone and/or video conference.
  • Frequent travel by car or other modes of transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in an at home or in office setting, or in a greenhouse or outdoor in an agricultural setting with varying weather, uneven ground, and other unpredictable natural factors.   
  • Travel by auto or other modes of public transportation is frequently required, up to or exceeding 50% of the time, including out of the area travel, safety permitting.
